"Jan Colley... takes the complicated Diamonds Down Under series through another twist with an engaging plot and characters."
I was a little wary going into this project. It came on the back of another continuity, the Dakota Fortune series, which I enjoyed immensely but was looking forward to getting my teeth into something of mine. But I sure wasn't going to turn down the opportunity to work with some of my favorite authors (and people.) The chance to put Down Under on the map was too good to pass up. Imagine, six connected books about Australia and New Zealand, by Australians and New Zealanders. I'm sure someone's done it before, but probably not six books and probably not with all the resources and distribution that goes hand in hand with a glitzy Silhouette Desire project.
I light-heartedly put Port Douglas forward as a suggestion for my book, not really expecting anyone to want to run with it. In actual fact, it provided a neat contrast to the more urban settings of Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland. Port is dear to my heart: I've been five times! If I concentrate, I can smell the sultry night air that comes from the rainforest meeting the ocean. The laid-back locals are super-friendly, and there are more world-class restaurants than you can shake a stick at. A morning walk along Four Mile Beach into the township (and a lime thickshake) is a daily ritual for me - above all else, it's great plotting time. Port may be a little less glitzy than most settings in Desire but it's very romantic with brilliant sunsets over the tropical rainforest cascading into instant black night, kookaburras chuckling on the balcony in the mornings, and the glorious underwater gardens of the Great Barrier Reef.
Satin and a Scandalous Affair - the setting, the bling, the camaraderie of my five partners-in-crime - will remain one of my most cherished writing experiences.
